On Monday, October 26, we're changing how replays work in eWebinar.
The short version: replays aren't going away. Attendees just won't register for one anymore. If you want attendees to control the video, you can now turn that on for on-demand sessions.
Why we're making this change
A replay is supposed to be something you get after a session.
When we started eWebinar, we let attendees register up front for a replay for one reason: so they could watch with full video control. Later, we added on-demand sessions. Since replays already offered video control, on-demand didn't. If you wanted attendees to control the video, we told you to use replays.
But in the age of Netflix, people expect to be able to control all on-demand video. It was time to untangle this.
What's changing
No more registering for a replay
Replays are no longer an option on your registration page, widgets or share links. Anyone who would have registered for a replay registers for an on-demand session instead.
Video controls for on-demand sessions
On-demand sessions now have a setting that lets attendees pause, skip and rewatch.
The replay becomes the place attendees come back to
The replay is now what it was always meant to be: the place attendees go after the session, to rewatch or catch up. Each attendee's replay brings everything from their session together:
- The full video, with complete video controls
- Their AI summary, key takeaways and action items
- Their bookmarks, notes and highlights
- Their poll, quiz and interaction responses
- Access to chat, including their conversation history
To keep things from being spoiled, interactions an attendee hasn't reached yet stay hidden on the replay. Resources fill in as they get to them.
What happens to your eWebinars on October 26
- If you offer replays, they'll switch to on-demand sessions with video controls on. You can turn controls off anytime.
- If you only offer on-demand (no replays), nothing changes. We won't turn on video controls.
- Replay settings move from the Schedule tab to the Settings tab.
What happens to your links
- Replay links you've already sent still open the replay.
- Ungated replay links, like ones on your website or in an LMS, now open an on-demand session.
- The replay registration link on your Share tab is replaced by an on-demand registration link.
Your follow-up emails
Since replay registrations are becoming on-demand, your attendees will need follow-up emails made for on-demand. We'll draft a new set for you with AI, based on your existing emails, and give you time to review them before October 26.
Using integrations?
Since attendees can come back to a session, a session can end more than once. Your integrations may get an update each time, with the attendee's latest progress. If you use a CRM or automation tool, make sure repeat updates won't create duplicates or re-trigger workflows.
